Mental Health First Aid Course #1 (runs to December 3)
What is "Mental Health First Aid"? Our MHFA program is a 12-hour training course that teaches participants how to help someone who is showing signs of a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. MFHA Canada is an evidence-based program of the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
Who should attend? Our focus is primarily to small and medium-size employers, health service providers, emergency workers, HR professionals and teachers but the program is open for participation by anyone in our community.When and Where... and How Much? Our first community offering of this program is for a maximum of 25 people. Delivery dates are Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, November 25 & 26 and December 2 & 3, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Our program leaders will be certified trainers from the Canadian Mental Health Association. $130 per person, includes texts and materials. Our sessions will all be held in the main boardroom at the Elgin Business Resource Centre on South Edgeware Road.What's covered? This is a basic level interactive course that teaches practical skills using a model that is easy to remember and apply in real life settings. It is appropriate for any adult with limited or no knowledge of mental health concerns.One of our SafeCommunities volunteers, Pam Buys, has taken the course and is assisting us with registrations.
